A Domain Name is the name that you type when trying to navigate to a website. You know what this is whether you realize it or not. This is everything after the “www.”. So in this case “centupli.com” would be a domain name name.
A Domain Name Provider is who you purchase that domain name from. In this document we examine making DNS Name changes for GoDaddy.
Adding an A Record
An A Record points a subdomain to a server’s IP address. You want to add one of these if you want to point something like “knowledge-base.centupli.com” to a specific server (IP address).
- Login to GoDaddy: Domain Names, Websites, Hosting & Online Marketing Tools
- Passwork > Marketing & Sales > DNS & Website Hosting > Centupli – GoDaddy Account
- Click Manage Domain > View all Domains
- Select your Domain Name. (centupli.com in our case)
- Scroll to the bottom and click Manage DNS
- Under the Records Section scroll down to the bottom and click Add
- Select Type as A
- In host type the subdomain name “subdomain name” (this is the part that comes before the centupli.com part. Example, subdomain.centupli.us)
- Points to input the IP address of your server.
