Configuring a DNS Name through GoDaddy

by | Aug 2, 2021 | Domain Name / DNS

A Domain Name is the name that you type when trying to navigate to a website.  You know what this is whether you realize it or not.  This is everything after the “www.”.  So in this case “centupli.com” would be a domain name name.

A Domain Name Provider is who you purchase that domain name from.  In this document we examine making DNS Name changes for GoDaddy.

Adding an A Record

An A Record points a subdomain to a server’s IP address. You want to add one of these if you want to point something like “knowledge-base.centupli.com” to a specific server (IP address).

  1. Login to GoDaddy: Domain Names, Websites, Hosting & Online Marketing Tools
    1. Passwork > Marketing & Sales >  DNS & Website Hosting > Centupli – GoDaddy Account
  2. Click Manage Domain > View all Domains
  1. Select your Domain Name. (centupli.com in our case)
  2. Scroll to the bottom and click Manage DNS
  3. Under the Records Section scroll down to the bottom and click Add
  4. Select Type as A
  5. In host type the subdomain name “subdomain name” (this is the part that comes before the centupli.com part.  Example, subdomain.centupli.us)
  6. Points to input the IP address of your server.
