Tulsa Website Design | Adobe Illustrator Explained

by | Feb 6, 2021 | Website Design | SEO

When it comes to building a Tulsa website design, it is important to have the right tools.  Today we are going to discuss one of the most useful graphic design tools you will find available to you.  This tool is used by graphic designers everywhere to build images and icons for websites, mobile applications and much more.  We are talking about Adobe Illustrator.

If you are new to the Adobe Suite of cloud software used to build stunning visual effects, Illustrator is one of the basic products that Adobe offers.  It is one of the most established products that Adobe has second only maybe to Photoshop in recognition.

Throughout this post we will be discussing how to use Adobe Illustrator on your website.  We here at Centupli offer SEO content writers, graphic designers (fluent in the skills you will hear about today) and much more all for the price of your morning coffee.

What is Adobe Illustrator?

Adobe Illustrator (or Ai for short) is a vector based software that operates off of your desktop computer to build digital artwork.  Think of Adobe Illustrator as a really fancy set of art tools.  You can use illustrator to manipulate images, but more importantly (and more often) you use illustrator to create vector graphics.

Vector graphics are images that are based on mathematical formulas.  Thankfully, Ai doesn’t show any of these formulas.  In fact, the only math that you have to do is determine a few widths and heights of objects and their borders.  The power of vectors is that they can be scaled up or down infinitely without pixelating.  We have all seen that person that uses a really small photo on their desktop background or projector.  It ends up looking like a jumbled up mess.  With vectors you can create an image and make it as large or small as you want it to be.

What does it do?

Like I said previously, Ai uses mathematical formulas to determine the styling of your images.  I come from a programming background so this is how I think about vector images.  If this doesn’t work for you, then just ignore this example.

Vector images are like the source code for my project.  The source code can be compiled into 32-bit or 64-bit mode.  It can be a DLL or an EXE.  The code itself remains relatively unchanged regardless of what it is compiled into.  That is kind of like a vector image.  You can export vector images into what we call “raster” images. These are the photos you normally think of when you think of images.

Do I Need It?

Now you might be asking yourself, “Why would I need that?”  Well the answer is relatively simple.  If you have the “source code”, you can use that image anywhere.  If you only have the png or jpg file, you are limited by the size of the image.

The best place to use these vector images is in logos and places where there is a need for large versatility.  Now mind you, the down side of vector graphics is that they are simplified. They only use basic shapes (lines, squares, circles, etc.) and colors.  For logos, this is really all you need, but if you want to build mountains or other things stick with Photoshop.
