What is search engine optimization?

Search engine optimization has been around as long as search engines. The concept of search engine optimization is making content readable to search engines. We do this because the user Google’s searching for your product, you want to be the first one on page. There are a lot of ways to do this and people have built their entire careers on this concept. Today we want to look at one specific aspect of search engine optimization – readability.

What is readability in Tulsa Website Design?

Readability is a concept that Google uses inside of its search algorithms to rank your Tulsa based website design content. The thought process behind this concept is this. If the user is looking for information, we don’t want to spend 45 minutes reading an article. Google then once it is easy for its users to find information that they want. That’s why they reward content that has hierarchy and structure that makes it easy to scan and understand the information without having to read all the words.

This means working all of your content into manageable chunks. These chunks are not a new concept. In fact you might have heard of them back in your fifth grade English class. These chunks are called paragraphs. Make sure that your content is broken up into paragraphs of five sentences to seven sentences at the most.

There are four things that I want to analyze: data will help you in your reading score. Reading score is defined as how easy it is to read your content. Again this is what Google uses to rank your content higher or lower in its search algorithms. Today I will look at the Flesch Reading Score, transitions, word count and paragraph headers.

Flesch Reading Score in Tulsa Website Design

The flesch reading score ranks your content based upon educational great standards. This just means that if you’re using big words the flesch reading score is going to be very high. The higher the score the more difficult words you’re using. Again this comes back to Google wanting your consumers to find information easily. That means that you want to use simplistic wording in language that allows customers to easily understand your content. If your customers like to have a Masters degree in psychology before they can understand your basic marketing information, that is too complicated. If your website is full of words that are only seen on the ACT test, you won’t rank very high in Google.

Transitions

Google wants to see that you’re using a lot of transitional words. These words are things like “finally”, “such as” and so. These words give readers context clues and allow them to understand the content better. This also allows the skim content easier so they don’t have to read everything. everything is about quickly finding information. If your readers can’t find information quickly, you won’t rank high in Google.

Paragraphs and wordings

We mentioned this previously but I want to cover the event. Each paragraph that you have should have been no greater than 300 words. Make sure that the content that you provide is simplistic and well-meaning. You want everything in a paragraph to make sense together. Think back to your high school English class and this will be very easy to understand.

Strong headers

The final thing I want to discuss today is the usage of strong headers. When you use strong headers you give readers context clues as to where the content is going. This way they don’t have to read through the whole entire article before they find the one piece of information they need. Instead, they easily skip to the part that they need.

This is a great time to talk about keywords. Websites need keywords to rank high in Google. These strong SEO based headers should include the keywords you want to rank for. This lets your reader and the search engines know what your content is about easily. Make sure you don’t go too far in this however. You don’t want all of your headers to have your keyword in them.
