What is Google Sandbox?

Google sandbox or just the sandbox for short is a concept found in Google’s algorithm for ranking websites. The sandbox is a place that Google puts websites that are not compliant. Google doesn’t rank websites high in its search engine results pages if they do not fit Google’s criteria. Much of this criteria is things like usability, ethics and more. Google doesn’t want your website to be found that is not usable or trying to game the system. The sandbox is essentially a place where no one can find the website. Which obviously if you are a business owner looking to allow people to find your website online this can be a very bad place for a free website to be.

Ranking your Tulsa Based Website Design in Sandbox

There are two ways that a website primarily falls into the Google sandbox. The time. The website in the sandbox is dependent upon the website itself. Sometimes these websites can be placed in the sandbox forever only accessible by specifically typing in the domain. Other times it’s just a few minutes. It all depends upon the infraction. As I said, there are two primary ways: website downtime and plagiarism.

Website downtime

It’s important that when you host your website you choose the proper carrier. Google doesn’t want to bring the website to the top of its results pages if it’s not sure it’ll be there with a user clicks on it. This makes sense. If Google wants the best results to come up top, a website that is on half of the time and off half the time is not usable. This is why it’s important to choose a hosting provider like GoDaddy or blue host that have high uptimes. There is no set downtime number which keeps your website from ranking high in Google. In general you want to be operational 99% of the year.

Plagiarism and Copying Content

In the early parts of Google. Websites would create content that was not unique. The content these websites would have would be specifically copied from another website. In those days, Google would simply rank on how much content a website had. If your website had more content than the competition, your website would rank higher. That led to things like website text that specifically repeated the keyword over and over and over again. It wouldn’t have any actual meaning, it would just be the keyword repeated on the website. Sometimes developers would even take that keyword and change the color to match the background of the website so it looked like just white space, but really it was the keyword repeated. These are all tips and tricks that you want to avoid when trying to rank high in Google.
