What is Adobe XD?

XD is an Adobe coined term describing user design. This probably comes from the term “UI/UX” that is very common in web application development. “UI/UX” stands for user interface and user experience. Adobe XD handles the design of user interfaces and experience. This product is Adobe’s version of a prototyping software. The primary reason why you use a software like this is to prototype and web application or website.

So how do we use it in Tulsa website design?

Using Adobe XD is relatively simple. There are three main concepts that we want to cover today: layers, art boards and components. These are not the only three concepts in Adobe XT. As you go further into this discussion, we will look at the other concepts present in Adobe XT. But for today we were simply looking at these three.

Layers

if you’re familiar with other Adobe products, be familiar with layers. A layer is like a single sheet of paper. Imagine that you are designing something in which you use transparent paper to jot down some ideas. Then when you have one or two design elements on separate sheets of paper, you can combine them by placing one over the other. This is the concept of layers. When you use layers, is very easy to try out ideas, add depth and insert effects on objects in your design.

Art boards

Art boards are concepts first developed inside of Adobe Illustrator. An art board has specific dimensions and represents some type of physical media. You might have an art board that represents a sheet of letter paper or an art board that represents an iPhone X. Adobe XD uses these art boards as prototype dimensions. These art boards have all the common device widths and heights.  When your artwork is placed on an art board, you will be able to see it as if you are looking at that physical device later in the design process.

Components

A component is a concept found in web application development. Think of components like templates. Let’s say you have a document template and at the top you have a special header with the special design. You right-click and create a new document based on that template. What does it do? It creates a copy of that template. This is the same concept with components. The only difference is that when you change the component in Adobe XD it also changes all other instances of that component. This can be extremely helpful if you want to change one design element and you have that element 800 places in your design.

Centupli the best Tulsa based website design company

Centupli is the best Tulsa based website design company – in our humble opinion. We offer you free Tulsa based website design prototypes. These prototypes let you “try before you buy” our products. This is different from many website design companies. Many companies just try to sell you on a website design without showing you what they can do. They might show you work for somebody else but maybe your website is different. With Centupli we practically build your website before you pay a cent. And when you do pay, it’s about as much as your morning coffee.
