Black in Tulsa website design

think back to your favorite James Bond TV show. You have that man dressed in all black going to a black tie event. Immediately you think sophistication in class. You see men in tuxedos and notice you hardly ever seen tuxedos in the color pink or purple. Instead you see the color black because it represents sophistication. Now today we analyze the color black and how you can use it in your brand to build consumer interest. I want to analyze the characteristics of the color black. Specifically, I want to look at the formality, dramatic, sophistication and security attributes represented in this color. Remember the goal of using a specific color in your business is to make your consumers feel that. If your business relies on feelings of security or sophistication to do business, and you need to use a specific color.

What feeling does your business rely on?

As I mentioned previously black represents formality, dramatic, sophistication and security attributes. And will look at each one of these individually in a few moments. Right now however I want you to ask yourself what feelings does your business rely on? If you are a security company, the consumers that want to purchase security equipment from you need to feel like you are a secure business. I’m reminded of a very simple example of toothpaste.

When consumers first started using toothpaste heavily (everyday) back during WWII, the toothpaste would make their mouth tingle. That’s because what they were using had some mildly irritating components. Men and women would brush their teeth and they would feel that cool minty feeling that we understand now. That cool minty feeling (that “clean” feeling) doesn’t actually happen because of any cleaning products. In fact, today toothpaste companies could build toothpastes that taste like anything. Toothpaste companies keep that mildly irritating component in their toothpaste so that you feel clean. Sometimes it’s not about what actually is happening, but it’s about what consumers feel.

Think about Disney World. Disney sells its entire brand based upon a feeling. No one wants to go to Disney to actually get something. Disney sells experience. They sell feelings. So as were going throughout this post today I want you to think about the color black and how you want your customers to feel.

The four attributes of the color black in Tulsa Website Design

As we said about twice in this post so far therefore attributes of the color black. These attributes are present when businesses use the color black in the branding. So without further ado let’s look at the four different types of feelings or attributes that are created when businesses use the color black.

Formality

again let’s go back to her James Bond black tie event thought process. When James Bond goes into a very formal event, everybody’s not wearing pinks, purples and blues. Instead the color black is showing that formality. A very formal business working with more uptight consumers needs to take advantage of the color black. You would never dream of going to a funeral home and seeing nothing but yellows and blues. Think about how your brand actually is conveyed to the customer.

Dramatic and sophistication

The next two attributes go hand-in-hand. Drama and sophistication attributes are definitely present in the color black. This goes right along with the formality concept that we previously discussed. You often see very formal, wealthy individuals wearing black. Think about your average car salesman. When you have a luxury car like maybe a Lincoln, they don’t show off their fancy yellow version of that car. Instead the commercials are wanting you to feel sophisticated and luxurious so that you will spend the $50,000. That’s why they use the color black and their cars.

Security

businesses that want to make the consumers feel secure use the color black. Think about maybe a credit card processing company or a bank. The use of black could make you feel sophisticated, luxurious and secure. Nothing like black lock signs overtop of certain aspects of the website. Think about when you’re entering in your credit card information on a website. Your business better feel secure or your potential customers are to walk away without inputting their credit card information. No one wants their credit card information stolen. Your business can be the most secure processor of credit card information on the planet, but if you do not have the look and feel of security, people are to walk away from you.
